What we do
At the heart of the General Assembly's information technology operation is its data center and supporting network infrastructure. On the 6th floor of the General Assembly Building, DLAS has architected a high speed, stable, and secure network infrastructure, complete with robust file and print services, and responsive desktop computing. And because we constantly evaluate technology trends, DLAS can advise on solutions that match agency needs while ensuring that critical information is secure and accessible into the future.
DLAS creates and maintains custom software applications to meet the core business needs of the General Assembly. In-house programmers deploy web-enabled applications, integrate systems, and upgrade legacy applications using the latest technologies. The General Assembly depends on these applications to manage the detailed requirements of the legislative process and serve the citizens of Virginia by making legislative information available on the web.
Web and publication design is about effectively communicating information through the strategic use of graphic design and print technology. DLAS brings over 10 years of experience in creating design solutions that build identity, articulate mission and message, and educate readers. Our printing facilities, website hosting technology, and consulting services give the General Assembly and its agencies a comprehensive solution for all of its website and publication needs.
The work of the General Assembly is ultimately communicated in print whether it is proposed in a bill or preserved in the bound Journals of the House and Senate. DLAS ensures that mandated legislative publications are produced and distributed in quantities adequate for public dissemination and historical preservation. DLAS may contract with private vendors for high-volume quick-turnaround jobs or utilize in-house on-demand printing technology for smaller custom orders. If you are in the General Assembly Building, visit the Legislative Bill Room to see what services are available at the walk-up window.
Effective decision-making requires effective communication. DLAS provides a variety of communication services utilizing specialized software and hardware solutions that facilitate one-on-one and group interaction. Whether soliciting input through an online survey, facilitating a small group discussion forum, or scheduling meetings, DLAS has resources to make the connection happen.
